The volunteers braced themselves join forces against the wagon – and had success: dozens passengers have saved a woman near Tokyo, which was wedged between the train and platform.

It was a dramatic situation at Minami-Urawa Station in Saitama, north of Tokyo, Japan: Located in the morning rush hour, a woman fell while getting into the 20 centimeters wide gap between train and platform and was stuck there.

But around 40 passengers and railway staff reacted quickly. They braced themselves together against the approximately 32-ton wagon of the train. A photographer for the daily newspaper “Yomiuri Shimbun” happened on the spot and captured the scene.

The cars swing, according to a spokesman for the railway operator JR East easily back and forth to compensate for the movement of the train. Therefore, the rescue operation was possible. The volunteers pushed the car a few inches to the side – enough to free the trapped woman.

Loud cheers rang out as she was pulled back onto the platform. Serious injury was not of the woman. And shortly after the train left the station again, as if nothing had happened – only eight minutes late.
