Dele Alli Interview: Sexual Abuse, Smoking, Drugs

Alli said she was abused when she was six years old. He started smoking at the age of seven and selling drugs at the age of eight.

The young star explained:

“I woke up one morning. I had to go to training, at that time Mourinho stopped playing me. I remember looking in the mirror. It might sound dramatic, but I was really just looking in the mirror and thinking, ‘Can I retire at 24?’ You know, doing what I love. For me, this was a situation that broke my heart.

I’ve always struggled with myself. I was winning the battle, smiling, showing that I was happy, but inside I was definitely losing a battle. Trauma is trauma, and your body records the same no matter what.

If you knew about my life, you would understand this a little better. I want to help others know that they are not alone in how they feel, and I want them to know that getting help is not a sign of weakness.”

Dele Alli: My Mother Was An Alcoholic

Explaining that her mother was harassed by her friend who always came home when she was six, Alli said, “My mother was an alcoholic. Then I was taken to Africa to learn discipline and then sent back. I started smoking at the age of seven and selling drugs at eight. An old man told me they couldn’t stop a boy on a bike so I would run around with my soccer ball and get dope under it. When I was 11… I was hung from a bridge by a man next door.”

Alli stated that she was adopted at the age of 12. The Dele Alli interview continued:

“From that moment on, it was like I was adopted by a wonderful family. In reality, I was never coping with the problems, I was trying to deal with the growing problems and traumas, the emotions I was holding on by myself.

My adopted family, my brother, sometimes pulled me aside and asked me to cry and tell just how I felt, but I couldn’t.

I lost myself for a few years, I was pushing everyone away, when my parents who saved my life were crying, when they asked me to tell me what was wrong, I didn’t want to do it.

I woke up every day, won the challenge, and went to practice with a smile every day. I wanted to show that I am happy. I was losing the fight inside and it was time for a change. When I was told I needed Surgery, I could feel the emotions I felt when the cycle started.”
