Another terror attack shook India again. At least 12 dead and 85 injured after powerful bomb blast outside the Delhi High Court in India.

Terror has struck wednesday Delhi again when a powerful bomb exploded outside the Delhi High Court at 10.17 am, Indian local time. At least 11 persons are confirmed dead, while more than 85 others are injured. The bomb is placed in a suitcase outside gate No. 5 to the Delhi court, used by lawyerss and litigants. Indian security force officials fear the death toll will rise. Internal security secretary informed it was a medium to high intensity blast.

Initial reports stated that the death toll was five. But in the confusion following the blast, a firm number could not be established. Death toll was claimed to be 9 in the following reports, which has risen to 12 as now. More than 200 people are said to have been at the Delhi court gate at the time of the bomb blast.

According to eyewitnesses, many persons were injured in the explosion, which occurred at around 10:17 am and some of them may be in a critical condition. Other eyewitnesses state the blast was very loud and powerful.

“Whatever we could gather from the blast investigations is that it is an IED (improvised explosive device) with ammonium nitrate. We are working with the Delhi Police to get details,” National Security Guard Director General Rajen Medhekar told reporters. Court business is usually heavy on Wednesday, which is listed as a Public Interest Litation (PIL) day when the visitors come to the court in large numbers, so the aim of the bombers was to keep the number of casualities as high as possible.

The latest terror attack marks the second bom blast outside the Delhi court complex in four months. On May 25 this year, a bomb containing ammonium nitrate wrapped in a bag and placed in a car outside the Delhi court’s Gate No. 7 exploded. No one was hurt in the explosion, but it prompted Indian authorities to place the city of New Delhi on high alert.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha has been adjourned to that government can focus on the blast. Home Minister will make a statement at Indian Parliament. Home Minister P Chidambaram confirmed in Parliament that the Delhi court blast was a terror attack. However, the motive and the perpetrators of the blast behind the terror attack are yet to be identified. Indian minister stated that people responsible of the attack will be brought to justice swiftly. “It would be too early to say anything as to who is behind the blast as all important Indian cites are generally on terror hit list,” UK Bansal, Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs added, “An alert has been sounded in the entire city.”
