A federal security screener at the Miami International Airport has been charged with allegedly using a police baton to hit and injure a co-worker after months of teasing about the screener’s genitalia after going through the controversial full body scanners introduced in airports.

The incident which occurred on Tuesday night, highlights how problematic the already debated system can be as European, Asian and countries in the North and South Americas are debating whether to introduce the system which shows a full nude body silhouette of the people going through it.

According to reports, the TSA Screener named as Rolando Negrin’s had been bombarded with teasing by co-workers for months after the man went into the airport’s full body scanner for a training session.

Month of bullying by co-workers had climaxed on Tuesday night when the screener attacked Hugo Osorno, at the employee parking lot of the airport.

According to police reports Negrin said “stated he could not take the jokes anymore and lost his mind,”

The scheme which was introduced in the United States in 2008 caused outrage as the scanner can allow employees to see bellow the clothing of the passengers.

Though there is no doubt of the effectiveness of the scanners as security officials are able to see all metal and suspicious looking items on a passenger at an airport, it also allows officials to see piercings, embarrassing body parts and genitalia.

Some groups opposing the scheme have already named it as a “virtual full body strip,”.
