India is planning to extend visa on arrivals to citizens of 16 more countries, including Germany, France, Russia, Brazil and Malaysia.

New Delhi, March 4/Nationalturk –  In yet another move to attract more tourists to the country and increase foreign exchange earnings, India is planning to extend visa on arrivals to citizens of 16 more countries, including Germany, France, Russia, Brazil and Malaysia.

India is providing visa on arrival with a maximum validity for 30 days to citizens of 11 countries — Singapore, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Japan, Finland, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar.  The facility was launched in January 2010.

An independent study conducted by the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) has noted that visa on arrival  scheme has a significant and positive impact on the decision to travel to India.

The Indian Tourism officials said the Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme has been a great success and the visa on arrivals in country registered a growth of 24.4 per cent in January this year.

The Indian Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi recently met country’s Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and submitted a proposal to extend Visa-on-arrivals to 16 more countries.

According to him, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Sweden and Norway will cover the European and Scandinavian countries, which are key inbound markets.  “Similarly, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are likely to cover the emerging markets from the CIS countries.  Brazil and South Africa will cover foster IBSA Cooperation and Trinidad & Tobago to foster our historical links. Thailand, Malaysia and Brunei will cover all the ASEAN countries, which will be consistent with our look east policy. South Korea should also be included as it is a very important tourist generating market”.

An Indian tourism official said they have also proposed  extension of tourist visa on arrival to more airports namely Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Goa, Bodhgaya and Trivandrum.

“After clearance and green signal from Home Ministry,  the tourist visa on arrival facility will be provided to 16 more countries. This will help in earning more foreign exchange,” he added.
