Israeli army launches ground operation in southern Lebanon
As the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran enters its 17th day, a new phase has begun. The Israeli military announced that it has launched “limited and targeted” ground operations in southern Lebanon.
A new development has emerged in the war that began on February 28 and has escalated between the United States, Israel and Iran. The Israeli military announced that ground operations had started in southern Lebanon, describing the move as limited and focused on specific targets.
“Limited ground operations” announced
In a statement, the Israeli military said it had begun limited ground operations in southern Lebanon. The army stated that the operation aims to remove threats and create an additional layer of security for residents in northern Israel.
The Israeli military also said that the operations are targeting key Hezbollah positions in the region.
91st Division deployed
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), troops from the 91st Division are taking part in the ground operation. The units are working to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure and neutralize militants operating in southern Lebanon.
At the same time, the 146th Division is continuing defensive missions to secure communities in the Galilee region.
Air and artillery strikes preceded the operation
The IDF stated that the ground operation followed extensive preliminary strikes carried out with artillery and airpower against targets in southern Lebanon.
These strikes were aimed at reducing immediate threats before the deployment of ground troops.
Israel: Hezbollah joined the conflict with Iran’s backing
Israel has accused Hezbollah of joining the conflict with support from the Iranian government. Israeli officials said the operations are intended to prevent attacks on Israeli civilians and target militant infrastructure in Lebanon.
Rising casualties in Lebanon
According to official Lebanese figures, Israeli strikes have killed 826 people in Lebanon since the war began.
Part of “Operation Roaring Lion”
The Israeli military said the ground operations are part of an ongoing military campaign called “Operation Roaring Lion.” The operation combines airstrikes, artillery fire and targeted ground actions against threats from Iranian-backed groups.
