More than 400,000 cases of coronavirus in Belgium

The measures announced this Friday at the end of the Concertation Committee are more than necessary. Here is the proof, in numbers.

Belgium has identified an average of 15,847 new cases of covid-19 between October 21 and 27 inclusive, which represents an increase of 31% compared to the previous calculation period, according to Saturday morning the provisional assessment of the Sciensano Public Health Institute. A total of 412,314 infections have been counted since the start of the epidemic.

The test positivity rate, the proportion of positive people out of all those tested, has now reached 26.9% nationally. The incidence, which reflects the number of new cases per 100,000 population, stands at 1,701.2 (+ 186%).

These ever higher figures are therefore worrying, and the measures announced yesterday by the Concertation Committee therefore seem more than necessary. These measures are valid for the whole of Belgium. But the differences between municipalities remain significant.

In addition, between 20 and 27 October, on average 90 people died of the coronavirus per day in Belgium (i.e. 53 more units compared to the previous week), now bringing to 11,452 the number of deaths attributed to Sars-CoV. -2 since the start of the pandemic.

Hospital admissions reached a daily average of 636 between October 24 and 30, a 59% increase. Currently, 6,438 people are hospitalized for covid-19 (+ 4%), including 1,105 in intensive care (+ 5%).
