Muammar Gaddafi Killed in Sirte

Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi was killed on Thursday (October 20) by transitional forces near his hometown Sirte.

Gaddafi’s arrest came after weeks of fierce battle between his supporters and transitional forces opposed to him.

According to some international media agencies Gaddafi was rushed to hospital after suffering severe bullet injuries through his legs. Later he succumbed to injuries.

He was born on June 07, 1942 and seized power from former autocratic ruler in a military coup in 1969.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on 27 June 2011 for Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam, and his brother-in-law Abdullah al-Senussi, in connection with crimes against humanity. Interpol had also issued an arrest warrant against him for crimes against humanity.

Gaddafi was toppled in August this year and ever since he went into hiding.
