Nuri Sahin was transferred to Liverpool / Liverpool Transfer News Video

Liverpool have agreed a deal to take Real Madrid Turkish midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old had also been a target for Arsenal, but will now move to Anfield subject to him passing a medical.

Nuri Sahin, who has won 31 caps for Turkey, becomes the third new arrival for new manager Brendan Rodgers following the permanent signings of striker Fabio Borini from Roma and midfielder Joe Allen from Swansea City.

Sahin came to global attention when he played a key part in Borussia Dortmund winning the 2010-11 Bundesliga title, and he was named Germany’s Player of the Year for his contribution.

That earned him a move to Real Madrid last summer, but he failed to make an impact at the Bernabeu and made just four appearances in La Liga last term.

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has expressed his desire to see Sahin get more playing time in another of Europe’s top leagues, but ultimately wants to keep the player in the long term.

Who is Nuri Sahin

Sahin was born in the German town of Ludenscheid. He is a 23-year-old Turkey international, who has been capped 35 times, and, given he is blessed with the sweetest of left-foots, has been destined for big things from a young age.

Such was the progress Sahin made through the ranks of Borussia Dortmund’s Academy, he became the youngest player to feature in the Bundesliga when, at 16 years and 334 days, he made his debut for Dortmund.

He is also the youngest player to ever score in Germany’s top flight and, for good measure, won the Bronze Ball prize at the 2005 Under-17 World Cup.

Sahin had a spell playing on loan in Holland for Feyenoord in 2007-08 and the experience clearly did him the world of good, as he returned to Germany and established himself in Dortmund’s side. His crowning season was 2010-11, when he helped them win the title and was named Player of the Year.

His progress made clubs sit up and take notice and Real Madrid won the battle for his signature, paying £10million to bring him to Spain on a six-year contract.
