Russell Crowe puts his stamp on Australia

Russell Crowe puts his stamp on AustraliaThe Australian postal service is releasing a set of postage stamps featuring the New Zealand-born actor in his latest role as Robin Hood in the Ridley Scott blockbuster.

According to Guardian, for those many people who have long dreamed of licking Russell Crowe’s face, nirvana will soon be at hand. The Gladiator star is appearing on a set of postage stamps.

The stamps, released today by the Australian postal service, feature images of Crowe as Robin Hood, his latest blockbuster role. The Ridley Scott-directed movie opens internationally from next week and will now enjoy extra publicity, even if it is only on letters written by ageing relatives to their ungrateful brood.

“The release of the film Robin Hood this month is of global interest,” said a spokesman for Australia Post. “We thought it would be very fitting to pay tribute to this great actor by producing the Robin Hood stamp pack.”

For all Australia Post’s excitement, the promotional set is not the first time Crowe’s face has appeared on the mail. Only last year he was part of a special set of stamps depicting Australian Oscar-winners. He appeared both in civvies and as Maximus Decimus Meridius, alongside Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush and Nicole Kidman. All four were beaten to the punch by Jason Donovan, however. The former Neighbours actor appeared on a stamp in 2006.

Now an iconic Australian, Crowe, 46, was born in New Zealand and two of his cousins have played international cricket for the country. Crowe moved to Australia as a child and became a citizen in 2006.
