In the first incident of its kind, militants targeted a school in Pakistan’s Karachi City on Saturday, killing principal and injuring four students.

Islamabad, March 30/Nationalturk – The militants attacked a school in Pakistan’s Karachi City on Saturday morning, killing principal of the school and injuring four students.

“Unknown attackers travelling on a motorbike lobbed a hand grenade towards a private school in Baldia Ittehad Town of Karachi this morning. It was a result day today and large number of students, their parents, teachers and Principal of the school were present in the compound of the school when the grenade was lobbed,” a senior security official said.

He said the explosive device went off with a big bang in compound of the school, injuring principal Abdur Rashid and four students. “The injured were rushed to Civil hospital, where principal succumbed to injuries. The doctors have termed condition of two students as critical”.

Immediately after the blast, police, and Rangers personnel laid siege around the area to flush out the militants responsible for the attack. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack so far.

Meanwhile, according to Pakistan TV channel Express News, Principal Abdur Rasheed was a leader of Pakistan’s political party – Awami National Party (ANP) and was reportedly receiving threats for not paying extortion.

Policeman killed, 6 injured in suicide blast elsewhere

A police man was killed and six others injured in a suicide blast in northwestern Pakistan’s Mardan town today.

“The bomber had initially lobbed a hand grenade at police personnel standing outside a police station in Katlang bazaar in Mardan, some 50 kilometres northeast of Peshawar. After being chased by the policemen men, the bomber blew himself up, killing a policeman and injuries six others,” sources said.

They said injured were hospitalized.

“Police have launched a massive manhunt in the area as they have got reports that bomber was accompanied by another person, who managed to flee from the area,” sources said.
