Top 5 D.I.S.C.O. Destinations

Skyscanner shows you five D.I.S.C.O. destinations where you are guaranteed to hit the dance floor.

You Should Be Dancing, Yeah! The Bee Gees sang this in their 1977 soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever.

Back then things got really busy! If you love the old days and still like to swing your hips today, we have something for you. Our five D.I.S.C.O. destinations take you back in time.

Detroit, United States

Put your hands up for Detroit! Who doesn’t know these lyrics from Fedde Le Grande’s 2007 club hit? And this hymn is apt! Why? Well, Detroit is the birthplace of techno. An entire genre that grew out of the robotic, electronic disco dancefloor sound of 1976’s Donna Summer’s I Feel Love. Without disco there would be no house, no dubstep and therefore no dance steps so characteristic of it – which would really be a tragedy.

Ibiza, Spain

In 1983, Wham! in Ibiza the video for their hit club Tropicana. Then a bunch of DJs came to the Balearic Islands from all different corners of the world and put on their disco records, which sounded much better after a few sangrias… and the rest is history.

Sheffield, UK

S could also have been given to Sweden, where all of Stockholm and Malmö dance to hot disco tunes at lunchtime. “Lunch Beat” is the name of this fairly new trend, which has meanwhile spread to other European cities. But super-sexy “S” simply has to be given to Sheffield. If only because of the scene from the 1997 film “All or Not”, where the two desperate guys at the employment office dance to the cool classic Hot Stuff.

Charleston, United States

Now we’re stepping away from the classic disco music night fever era a bit and packing the 1920’s with the 2000’s. Because the Charleston is reviving, a dance named after a small port town in the United States. As in the 1920s, a whole generation is once again drawn to the dance floor to shake a leg to the rhythmic sounds of swing. While almost 100 years ago everything was still handmade, swing now enjoys electronic influences. However, he has definitely outgrown his infancy and today invites you to the disco instead of tea dance, where the floors shake and the lights flicker.

Oslo, Norway

The classic choice would probably be the city of Odessa, which was also the title of a 1969 Bee Gees song, but no, we prefer Scandinavia, known for its penchant for disco balls, here. While in neighboring Sweden, a cheeky sole is laid on the floor at lunchtime, the cool Norwegians let the puppets dance all night in the hip club The Villa. With hot electronic music, the spirit of disco music lives on in this dark club, even 25 years after its heyday.
