Tottenham 9-1 Wigan Video

Tottenham scored 9 goals against Wigan in a game that saw inspired forward Defoe score 5 goals in which 3 of them came in 7 minutes making it the second fastest hatrick in the history of the Premier League.

The performance of Defoe and winger Lennon was outstanding and proved too much to a Wigan defence that played a very amateur like football.

The first half of the game seemed like an average Premier League match with Tottenham leading 1-0 but the second half saw a total of 9 goals 8 of which scored by Tottenham and a consolation goal by a demised Wigan side

In condemning Wigan to their heaviest ever league defeat, Defoe joins Premier League legends Andy Cole and Alan Shearer as the only players to score five times in a fixture, while his seven minute hat-trick is the second fastest in Premier League era, a record that Robbie Fowler retains from 1994.

The result maintains Spurs’ fourth position in the league, but Defoe’s display will also delight England manager Fabio Capello.

With the World Cup finals drawing ever closer, it seems inconceivable that Defoe will not be included in Capello’s squad — or even the starting line up.
