Turkish women semi-finalist in EuroBasket 2011
Turkey women national basketball qualified for the semi finals of the 33rd FIBA European Basketball Championship in Poland beating Montenegro 56-44 in the quarter-finals.
The Turkish women’s national basketball team on Thursday night won a historic match against unbeaten Montenegro and gained a ticket for the semi-finals in the 33rd FIBA Eurobasket 2011 championship in Poland. Turkey Women National Basketball team is thus among the 4 best basketball team in Europe, and also gained the right to play in the London 2012 Olympics qualifiers. The winners of Eurobasket 2011 will earn a direct ticket to London Olympics.
Turkey’s Şaziye İvegin made six of her game-high 14 points in the second half. She missed just one of her five attempts from behind the arc and came up with three steals.

Turkey head coach Ceyhun Yıldızoğlu congratulated his players for their outstanding effort and also praised the unbeaten Montenegro team. “We respect them because it is their first time at EuroBasket Women and they have done really well. They were undefeated and they played really hard. In the second half especially, we played two post players at the same timeand thatchanged the game,” the Turkey coach said.
Tonight at 9:30 p.m., Turkey are going to play with France to get to the finals in Eurobasket 2011.
