The Governor of Logar province of strife torn Afghanistan was killed in a powerful explosion in a mosque on Tuesday.

Kabul, Oct 15/Nationalturk –  The Governor of Logar province of strife torn Afghanistan was killed in a bomb blast while he was delivering a speech in a mosque on Tuesday.

“The powerful blast took place inside a mosque in provincial capital of Puli Alam in Easterh Afghanistan when Governor of Logar province Arsallah Jamal was delivering a speech to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha (festival of sacrifice),”security officials said.

Eid-ul-Adha is two of the major Muslim festivals celebrated across the Muslim world. The mosques remain packed on Eid-ul-Adha with devotees marking the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son when Allah ordered him to do so. Sheep and goats are sacrificed in many households and the meat distributed among family, friends and the poor on Eid-ul-Adha.

Security officials said the Governor was killed in the blast and 15 others sustained injuries, some of them critically. The injured were hospitalised.

‘Bomb was planted in microphone’

Security officials said the bomb was planted inside the microphone in front part of the mosque. “The blast took place when Governor was near the microphone and delivering his speech. He was the instant target and was killed on spot”.

Jamal,  47, who was said to be close confidant of President Hamid Karzai, had served as his campaign manager during the 2009 presidential elections.  He had survived a number of assassination attempts in the past, including suicide bombings.

No militant outfit claimed responsibility for the bombing but authorities apprehend that Afghan Taliban may be responsible for his killing.
