Islamabad, March 26/Nationalturk – No drone strike by United States has taken place in Pakistan’s tribal areas, where militant safe haven exists, in last three months.

“The Americans have not carried out even a single drone attack in last  90 days,” Pakistan TV news channel Geo News quoted Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as saying.

He said halt of US drone attacks is a good sign for government’s peace talks with Taliban.

“Our opposition to drones is known to the whole world and we have always said that using drones was a wrong policy and counter-productive. There have been no strikes in the last 90 days or so and there should be no strikes again,” Nawaz told Pakistani media in London.

Pakistan govt engaged in talks with TTP

Pakistan government is presently engaged in talks with banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). A team of government negotiators flew to TTP stronghold in North Wazirstan for direct talks with Shoura (advisory council) of the militant group.

TTP, according to media reports, had set a halt to drone attacks on militant hideouts in tribal belt as precondition for peace talks with the government of Pakistan.

Nawaz said direct talks were being held with TTP to bring an end to militancy in the country.
