Islamabad, April 28/Nationalturk – A Pakistani couple is stuck in India in absence of travel documents of their 10-day-old baby, which was born in India.

According to media reports,  Fatima and her husband Mir Muhammad Mahar of Nuhundi village near Ghotki, Pakistan went to visit their relatives in Jaisalmer in Indian state of Rajasthan three months ago alongwith their five year old son.

Fatima was seven-month pregnant at the time of travelling to India and gave birth to a boy on April 14 while she was in India.

The couple alongwith their 5-year-old son and new born boarded a train to return to Pakistan. However, they were intercepted by Indian immigration officials at Munabao and asked to show documents. Since the couple had no travel documents of the new born baby, they were not allowed to cross to Pakistan.

‘Either leave baby in India or stay back’

Although, new born baby’s father submitted birth certificate issued by municipal council of Jaisalmer corroborating his date of birth and details of parents but the authorities did not budge. They were told either to leave baby in India or stay in India till they get travel documents of the new born baby. The couple is now stuck in India.

“Fatima a native of Jaisalmer, India and is married to Mir Mohammed, a Pakistani national who lives in Ghotki village in Sindh province. She had come to see her ailing father two months ago. But due to death of her father the family had to extend their stay for another month,” the family members of the couple said.

The couple will now have to get their visa extended so that they can start process of getting travel documents for the new born baby.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s envoy to India, Abdul Basit has said the High Commission in India will register the name and other details of the newborn baby as soon as the woman contacts them and verifies her Pakistani origin with documents.
