A university student which studied in Canada has committed suicide at an indoor shooting range after shooting himself in the head in Istanbul, Turkey, while security cameras filmed the whole incident.

The student who was named as Eray Tetik, had been studying at a University in Canada but was reported to have been in Turkey for a while.

It has been reported that Tetik had been a member at the shooting range in Istanbul for only a short time before the tragedy struck.

The 21-year-old was seen on security cameras when he first entered the shooting range and has shocked the community with his calm behavior.

Being aided by an instructor, Tetik went up to the shooting range while his instructor was seen putting up a paper target.

After the handgun was given to the 21-year-old, it has been reported that he took a shot at the target before asking the instructor “If he could go and get him another gun”, the instructor replied, “I am not allowed to leave you alone with the gun”.

Tetik then looked as if he was preparing to take shots at the target and was seen slightly going backwards so that the instructor who was right behind him can take a step back. Tetik then suddenly took a step forward and pulled the trigger while the gun was pointing to his head.

It has been reported that the police who were called to the scene have ruled out any foul play by a second person and that the young man had committed suicide after viewing the security cameras.

Tetik’s body was taken to the Haydarpaşa Education and Research hospital after an attorney came to the shooting range and inspected the scene.

The lawyer of the shooting range, Doğukan Özdoğan, who spoke to the media about the alleged suicide said “Today (Saturday) a man came to the shooting range on his own. After having a short training session he took a single shot at the paper target.”

“He then asked for another gun from the instructor but because it was against the rules and regulations of the shooting range to leave him alone, the instructor stayed with the young man and said that he must use the gun given to him.”

“However the man done a sudden move and pushed the instructor with his back before shooting himself in the head with his left hand.”

The police have started an investigation. It is not known why the young man with high prospects for the future committed suicide.
