US: Person of interest released in Brown University shooting

Neronha stated that investigators found “no basis” to treat the released individual as a person of interest, while confirming that the investigation remains ongoing.
Police: Investigation remains fully active
Police in the city of Providence said the person of interest was released following further investigation. In a statement, authorities noted that the investigation is continuing and remains fully active with the involvement of all relevant agencies.

Mayor: All leads will continue to be pursued

Shooting left two dead, nine injured
The shooting occurred shortly after 4 p.m. local time on Saturday at Brown University. University police responded immediately, followed by Providence law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical teams. Two people were killed and nine others were wounded in the attack.
University suspends academic activities
Brown University Provost Francis J. Doyle announced that all remaining undergraduate, graduate and medical school classes, exams and academic projects for the Fall 2025 semester would not proceed as scheduled.
Political leaders react
Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse said he was praying for the victims and their families, describing the shooting as a devastating tragedy for the Brown University community and the wider Providence area. He added that federal resources would be available as the investigation continues.
