After 13 years of waiting: First glimpses of “Avatar 2”

The fans of “Avatar” had to be patient for a long time. The first trailer of James Cameron’s sequel to the award-winning film has finally been released.

Around 13 years after the original film, the trailer for the sequel, which has been eagerly awaited by “Avatar” fans, has been released. The approximately one-and-a-half minute clip gives a brief insight into the history of “Avatar: The Way of Water”. The film is not scheduled to hit theaters until mid-December 2022.

“This family is our fortress”

Director James Cameron’s sequel is set ten years after the original. Sam Worthington returns as avatar Jake Sully, who now has family on the threatened planet with his blue-skinned alien girlfriend, Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Giovanni Ribisi are also back, along with Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh, among others.

There is hardly any talking in the teaser trailer. For one minute, only film excerpts with music can be seen. Finally, viewers hear Jake Sully say, “I know one thing: wherever we go, this family is our stronghold.”

“The Best Trailer”

In the comments on the trailer on YouTube, the fans express their enthusiasm and high expectation: “This is one of the best trailers I have ever seen. No dialogue until the end, wonderful music and breathtaking pictures,” writes someone. Another person commented, “This looks amazing. I can’t wait to see this movie.”

Cameron began producing four “Avatar” films simultaneously in 2017. The planned film releases were postponed more often, most recently because of the corona pandemic. After “Avatar: The Way of Water”, further parts are to appear every two years, i.e. in 2024, 2026 and 2028. The original production “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora” from 2009 is considered the most financially successful film in history with worldwide revenues of over 2.8 billion dollars.
