Andalusia celebrates solidarity with Cuba

Friendship associations from the Spanish region of Andalusia celebrated their solidarity and support for the Cuban Revolution in style, sources close to the event highlighted today.

In an extensive report forwarded to Prensa Latina by José Manzaneda, director of the Cubainformacion outlet, it was noted that the VIII Meeting took place in Malaga with the participation of 70 delegates from 12 groups under the slogan “Andalusia against the blockade.”

Convened by the Andalusian Coordinator of Solidarity with the island, in Benalmádena (Málaga), the event displayed several discussion panels with the themes “More than 60 years of Blockade against Cuba”, with the participation of Cecilia Zamudio, a Colombian activist, and David Rodríguez, from the Valencian Association of Friendship with Cuba José Martí.

Also, “Cuba at the head of the world in health protection”, with Eleonora Villa, a Cuban scientist residing in Granada, and Remedios Ramos, councilor of United We Can of Malaga.

Another topic for debate was “Fidel’s role in the Cuban Revolution. Fifth Anniversary of his physical disappearance », with José Luis Centella, president of the Communist Party of Spain and Eva Sempere, head of the United Left Federal Environment Area.

In addition, “Cuba in the media”, with Ketty Castillo, writer and journalist, Ana Jorge Alonso, professor of Communication at the University of Malaga, and José Manzaneda, from Cubainformacion.

The Cuban ambassador to Spain, Marcelino Medina, the General Consul for Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla, Irelia López, and the Benalmádena City Councilor, Enrique Pablo Centella, took part in the meetings.

The meeting approved three resolutions, “The US blockade against Cuba, an attack against Human Rights”; «We vindicate Martí on the 127th anniversary of his fall in combat» and «Condolences and help to Cuba after the explosion of the Hotel Saratoga».

The conference also allowed the projection of the documentary “Fidel de cerca” and the video-summary “Andalusian solidarity with Cuba from the VII to the VIII Meeting”.

On the other hand, the event gave way to the unveiling of a plaque in homage to José Martí in the Parque de la Paloma in Benalmádena.
