Berta Cáceres’s daughter is appointed ambassador of Honduras in Cuba

The Honduran foreign minister pointed out that Zúñiga will help strengthen and deepen the ties of brotherhood with Cuba.

The daughter of environmentalist leader Berta Cáceres, Olivia Marcela Zúniga Cáceres, was sworn in by Honduran President Xiomara Castro as the new ambassador to Havana, Cuba.

In this regard, Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina stated that “it is an honor, on behalf of the president, to present Mrs. Olivia Marcela Zúniga as our new extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the people and government of the sister republic of Cuba.”

At the same time, the head of diplomacy of the Central American country added that Zúñiga “will be a person who, due to her quality, knowledge and activity, will help strengthen and deepen the ties of brotherhood with the people of Cuba.”

For her part, the person appointed to replace Andrés Pavón pointed out that “our commitment is to do our work with excellence to strengthen the historical ties that Cuba has had with Honduras.”

Similarly, the daughter of Cáceres, who aspired in the most recent elections to occupy a seat in the National Congress, assured that “we are going to continue working in all cultural, health and sports fields.”

Likewise, Zúñiga thanked the head of state for the trust placed in her while she stated that “I dedicate this step in my life to my mother and my beloved Intibucá.”

Accordingly, the appointment is part of the reformulation that the administration of the Honduran president aspires to carry out in the foreign service, and in particular with Cuba, taking into account the multiple signs of solidarity of the Cuban people.
