E-Passat also comes as a sedan

Growth for the e-car family at VW: After a mid-range station wagon, the Wolfsburg-based company presented the ID.Aero. / E-Passat also comes as a sedan

E-Passat also comes as a sedan / The sedan will initially start in China and then come to us.

SUVs are booming, but the good old sedan is no longer in great demand in this country. Many automakers have already responded to the drop in demand. For example, VW has long since removed the Jetta and the Passat with notchback from the range in Germany. It’s different in the US and China, where the segment still has a lot of fans. So it’s no wonder that the new electric sedan will start there first.

Just as long as the Passat

After an electric compact, an SUV and the ID.Buzz van, there is a sedan in Volkswagen’s ID family. The study ID is almost five meters long. Aero, similar to the notchback Passat (4.78 m). The future top model of VW’s electric car family will be launched in China in the second half of the year. In the same year, production is also scheduled to start at the German plant in Emden.

E-Passat / Low air resistance, long range

As with the other VW Stromers, the basis is the modular electrical construction kit (MEB). It can be flexibly adapted to different models. And thus brings VW cost advantages, since the technical basis is the same for all vehicles and only needs to be changed slightly. This means that a limousine can also be offered in Germany without any effort.

Similar to Mercedes with the EQE and EQS, VW also relies on an arched, long roof line and a rather stubby rear for the ID.Aero. Due to the long wheelbase and short overhangs, it should be spacious inside, VW promises. Thanks to the aerodynamic outer skin (cd value 0.23) with touch surfaces that are flush with the door panel instead of door handles and a 77 kWh battery, the ID.Aero can travel up to 620 kilometers.

As reported by “Auto Motor und Sport”, the production version of the Aero will then be called ID.7, and the station wagon will have a name suffix. Originally, the series was to be called ID.6, but this would lead to a duplication in China (there is already an ID.6 there). In addition, another model that is currently being developed under the name “Trinity” will be named accordingly in the future. And the Passat? The current generation will have a successor. But in view of the many ID innovations, it seems as if this could be the last generation.
