New Delhi, Jan 25:  The UAE’s Emirates Airlines is world’s 4th safest airlines while India’s Air India and Turkey’s Turkish Airlines is 3rd and 7th worst airlines respectively, according to Hamburg-based Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC), which monitors plane crashes around the world.

According to JACDEC’s safety ranking 2012, Finnair of Finland’s is world’s safest airline, followed by Air New Zealand of New Zealand and Cathay Pacific of Hongkong. “The UAE’s Emirates Airlines is world’s 4th safest airlines”.

“Our safety report is based on our annual safety calculations which include all hull loss accidents and serious incidents in the last 30 years of operations in relation to the revenue passsenger kilometers (RPK) performed in the same time. We also took into account the international safety benchmarks such as the IOSA Audit and the USOAP country factor,” JACDEC spokesman said.

He said they included in their safety report a time weightening factor, which increases the effect of recent accidents and weakening the impact of accidents in the past. “All calculation data ends after a period of 30 years. Fatalities are only counted when they were on board a passenger flight. No ground casualties or 3rd party fatalities in other aircraft. All accidents that fulfilled the criteria were involved in our calculation, regardless of causes or responsibilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, as per JACDEC’s safety ranking, Taiwain’s China Airlines is the world’s worst airlines. It is followed by Brazil’s TAM Airlines and India’s Air India. “Saudi Arabia’s Saudia Airlines figures No 6 in the worst airlines and Turkey’s Turkish Airlines is 7th worst airlines.”

According to JACDEC, there were 496 fatalities on commercial passenger flights last year, according to the report, two fewer than in 2011.
