Helen Mirren opens up about the cause of her stepson’s death

In an interview with People magazine, Hollywood star Helen Mirren and her husband Taylor Hackford explained the death of Hackford’s son and Mirren’s stepson Rio Hackford. The “The Mandalorian” actor and club owner passed away last Thursday at the age of 51. Now the couple announced that he had died as a result of “a uveal melanoma, a very aggressive and rare form of cancer”.

Together with her husband, the 76-year-old appeals because of the tragedy: “We ask everyone who reads this to have their eyes tested at least once a year. That could save a loved one from this type of cancer.”

“Rio just knew things”

Rio’s work deeply “inspired” both of them, and his loss “broke their hearts,” it said. “His life has shown us how to live with generosity and in community. He has shared his life journey with so many people who are now mourning him. And at the same time, they are celebrating their good fortune to have known him.”

Josh Homme also mourns the loss. The Queens of the Stone Age member had his name tattooed in honor of the deceased. “Rio just knew things. Esoteric things. Things off the beaten track. Secret things. Wonderful things,” recalls the musician. He was an honest person with wit, charm and a strong personality.

In “The Mandalorian” he played the droid IG-11, voiced by Taika Waititi. He last appeared as a manager in the series “Pam & Tommy”. Hackford also had small appearances in films such as “Love on Detours” or “Strange Days”. He played his first role in 1990 in “Pretty Woman”.
