Actor Michael Lerner is dead. He was seen in “Godzilla” and “A Serious Man”. Lerner’s nephew, also actor Sam Lerner, announced his uncle’s death on Instagram.

“We lost a legend last night. It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my uncle Michael was and the influence he had on me.” He inspired his nephew to also pursue a career in front of the camera.

30-year-old Sam Lerner continued: “He was the coolest, most confident and talented guy and the fact that he was my blood relative will always make me feel special. Anyone who knows him knows how crazy he was – in the best way.” He is happy that he was able to spend so much time with his uncle and it is great that his work will be available forever.

Finally, Lerner concludes, “RIP Michael, enjoy your unlimited Cuban cigars, your comfortable armchairs and your never-ending marathon of movies.” According to the New York Times, Lerner died in a hospital in Burbank, California.

Michael Lerner began his career in the mid-1970s in the crime thriller “The Day of Reckoning”. This was followed by roles in “Godzilla” in 1998, in the slapstick strip “Buddy – The Christmas Elf” in 2003 or in 2014 in “X-Men: Future is Past”.

In various well-known series, Lerner took on guest roles. He has appeared in episodes of “M*A*S*H”, “Hard But Hearty”, “The A-Team”, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, “Kojak” and “MacGyver” among others.

Michael Lerner was born on June 22, 1941 in New York City. Before working as an actor, he trained at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and later attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He received his master’s degree from the University of California.

However, it took some time for his acting career to take off. At first, Lerner only appeared in guest roles on television. In 1980 and 1881 he landed two film roles in From Coast to Coast and When the Postman Rings Twice. However, he had to wait another ten years for his big breakthrough. He first gained notoriety in 1991 with his role as film producer Jack Lipnick in Barton Fink. Michael Lerner was even nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor for his performance. It wasn’t quite enough for the gold trophy, but Lerner scooped up a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor.
