Islamabad, June 15/Nationalturk- The militants have bombed the historic residence of Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah in restive Quetta city of Pakistan’s Southwestern Balochistan province, destroying it completely and killing a policeman deployed for security there.

A police official, pleading anonymity said a group of four to five militants entered the 121-year-old historic building at Ziarat, about 120 kms from Quetta in the wee hours today. “The militants hurled rocket propelled grenade, destroying all the old memorials inside the residency”.

He said memorial chairs, beds, and historic photographs of Pakistan’ founder were raised to rubble in the fire.

“The wooden structure of the residence had been burnt completely. However, the exterior structure made of bricks was still intact,” he said.

The official said militants also fired on the policemen deployed for safety of the building. A policeman was killed in the militant firing.

Some reports suggest rockets were also fired

Some reports suggested that militants had also fired rockets towards the historic building. The facts were being ascertaining

After the bombing, experts of bomb disposal squad rushed to the area to look for more bombs. The bomb disposal team detected and defused six more bombs planted inside the residency.

Immediately after the militant attack, police and paramilitary soldiers launched a massive operation to track down the militants responsible for the attack. However, no arrests have been made yet.

Pakistan’s founding father Mohammad Ali Jinnah had spent last days of his life in Ziarat at the historic wooden structure before his death in 1948. The Residency,  which was built in 1892, was originally used as the summer residence of the Agent of the British Governor General before partition of Indian subcontinent in 1947.

Ziarat is considered a tourist point in insurgency-hit Balochistan province. A large number of tourists visit the town and the memorials of the Quaid every summer.

Balochistan Liberation Army claims attack

According to Pakistan newspaper, Express Tribune, outlawed militant outfit Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed the attack on the Jinnah residency in Ziarat.

“Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has said the residency had been attacked by five militants, who had removed the Pakistan flag and raised the BLA flag in its place,” the newspaper said.

  1. This blast is an attempt to weaken Dr. Malik and his Government. We strongly belive Pakistan’s ISI/FC did it in retaliation of Dr. Malik’s recent visit to Baloch missing person’s camps in Quetta and for raising the Baloch missing person issue vigorously. They want to achieve two purpose here. One to give credit to BLA, a proxy of their own, and the other is to sabotage the reconciliation process and make Dr. Malik’s Government a failure and thus use this pretext to maintain their unconstitutional Government in Balochistan and to send a message to Dr. Malik that if he doesn’t stop from speaking up for missing persons, then he will face such consequences. The FC has been the main culprits in ‘killing and dumping’ Baloch activists and disappearing them in large numbers. They will block and oppose any move that exposes their ugly crimes against the Baloch citizens and bring them to justice for breaking the law by running an unconstitutional parallel Government in Balochistan. IF BLA has some balls they should go attack Jinnah’s grave in Karachi and blow up Khan Kalat’s palace in Kalat for selling Balochs into Pakistani slavery. Blowing up Ziarat residency is nothing but a conspiracy of Baloch Nawabs and Sardars and FC plus establishment against Dr. Malik and his Government. It doesn’t help in any way the Baloch cause. Any move to destabilize Balochistan, weaken Dr. Malik’s Government and sabotage the reconciliation process must be condemned in the strongest terms possible.
