Russia has the mayor of Melitopol kidnapped

The southeastern Ukrainian city of Melitopol has been occupied by Russian troops for days.

Ukrainians who don’t want to surrender to the Russian occupation? Apparently they are being taken out of the way by the Kremlin tyrant’s troops!

The mayor of Melitopol was kidnapped on Friday, the Ukrainian parliament reports. A statement said: “A group of 10 invaders kidnapped the mayor of Melitopol (Zaporizhia region) Ivan Fedorov. He refused to cooperate with the enemy.”

Fedorov was arrested in the city’s crisis center. The Russian kidnappers apparently acted extremely brutally: “During the kidnapping of Fedorov, they put a plastic bag over his head,” according to the parliamentary statement.

Zelenskyj demands release

In his daily video speech, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (44) describes the kidnapping as an attempt by Russia to shut down official bodies in Ukraine and calls for Fedorov’s release.

“This is obviously a sign of the weakness of the invaders. They have not found any collaborators who would cede the cities and power to the occupiers. Therefore, they have entered a new phase of terror in which they are trying to eliminate representatives of local Ukrainian authorities,” Zelenskyy said.

And further: “They did not find any support on our land, although they expected it. Because for years they lied to themselves that the people of Ukraine are supposedly waiting for Russia to come. This is Ukraine. This is Europe. This is a democratic world.”
