Sendai Devastated by Destructive Tsunami

Sendai, a city of around one million in northeastern Japan, is among the worst-hit places in the 9.0-magnitude quake that struck Japan on Friday and the following tsunami.

The coastal areas of the city have almost been flattened by the tsunami while the city center is almost intact and streets in downtown areas are desolate.

Rescue workers continue three days after the massive earthquake struck the island nation, the biggest to hit the country.

Thousands of vehicles are seen thrown away across the city and the debris left behind the tsunami shows the extent of the devastation.
