Spanish Unions Refuse Euro Anti-Crisis Measures
Spain rejects EU Anti-Crisis Measures

The two largest unions in Spain, the General Union of Workers (UGT) and the Workers” Commissions (CCOO) expressed opposition to EU recommendations for speed up a solution to the economic crisis.

As Europe undergoes a severe debt crisis, the European Commission intends to sink Spain even more, stated UGT union leader Candido Mendez.

He was referring to EC proposals to the Spanish government on Tuesday for further reducing the Spanish budget deficit.

Mendez ruled out cuts to Social Security taxes, because those funds are used to pay pensions.

In statements to Television Española, Mendez and his CCOO counterpart, Ignacio Fernandez Toxo, underlined the contradiction in requesting that Spain implement such measures when what the country needs is to maintain social protection and stimulate consumption.
