Turkish High Court upheld the sentence Fenerbahce chairman match-fixing case / Breaking News
Turkish High court approves conviction of Super league Giants Fenerbahce & Besiktas in match-fixing case.
The High court announced that it had partially approved some convictions, but had also quashed the convictions of some of the 85 people involved in the case.
In 2012, Aziz Yildirim Chairman of Fenerbahce Istanbul was sentenced to six years and three months in prison and given a penalty of one million Turkish Liras for match-fixing and forming an unarmed crime gang.
The court’s ruling will also prevent Yildirim from working for the club.
UEFA also banned Besiktas and Fenerbahce from European competitions for match-fixing.
Scores of individuals, including agents, former players and club managers were arrested in two waves of the probe, with Yildirim being the highest-profile figure.
The Supreme Court’s ruling means that Aziz Yildirim can no longer serve as a club official, according to the code for football club administrations. The sanction had required the approval of the appeals court to go into effect.
Yıldırım, along with fellow Fenerbahce officials Ilhan Eksioglu, Sekip Mosturoğlu, Tamer Yelkovan and Cemil Turan, were also found guilty of manipulating several games from the 2010-2011 Turkish championship.
The case also involved a number of officials from Besiktas, Eskişehirspor, Sivasspor, Giresunspor and Diyarbakırspor.
Now, UEFA needs to apply the rules. The Championship cup should be taken from Fenerbahce ang should be given to Trabzonspor. Moreover, UEFA needs to send Fenerbahce to the previous league.JUSTICE FOR ALL
