Cuba Solidarity Event Concludes in Mexico for Che Guevara

Mexico City, Oct 9 An evening to remember the 43rd anniversary of the murder of Cuban-Argentine revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara marked the end of a three-day Cuba solidarity event organized by activists in the Mexican capital.

A poetry recital and performances by young singer-songwriters who follow Cuban protest song made it a pleasant evening, which featured the presence of Cuban Ambassador Manuel Aguilera and leaders of the Mexican solidarity movement.

The Hugo Arguelles Cultural Forum of Coyoacán, located on the outskirts of the capital, was the venue for a screening of the documentary “San Ernesto de la Higuera,” presented by poet Waldo Leiva, cultural attaché of the Cuban embassy.

In the same venue, an exhibition opened of photographs of Che Guevara by well-known Cuban artists, and will remain open until October 28.

When the solidarity activities began two days ago, another exhibition opened in the Jesus Reyes Heroles Cultural Center in Coyoacán, dedicated to the victims of the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner that killed 73 people, and to the Cuban Five, antiterrorist heroes serving unjust sentences in U.S. prisons.

Activists with the Mexican Cuba Solidarity Movement have called the Continental Cuba Solidarity Conference, to be held in Mexico City October 6-9, 2011, with the participation of delegates from all over the Western Hemisphere.
