Disappointment for Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry

Even before its release, the controversial Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” caused a stir. The series finally appeared in December last year and gave intimate insights into the life of the royal and the former actress and her problematic relationship with the British royal family in six episodes.

While there was a lot of criticism, experts had given Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan good chances at the Emmy Awards for the documentary. Now the nominees for the 75th awards in September have been announced – with disappointment for the couple. But there is one consolation: The Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” was taken into account at the HCA TV Awards. The Hollywood Critics Association nominated her for Best Streaming Nonfiction Series.

However, tough competition awaits there: The Sussexes will compete against, among other things, the reality show “Rennervations” with Jeremy Renner, the documentary series “1619 Project” produced by Oprah Winfrey about the history of slavery in the USA and its effects as well as the Apple TV+ Travel documentary “Reluctant Holidays with Eugene Levy”. The animal film “A Planet Before Time” and the US series “Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss” are also in the running for the award.

These are the Emmy Favorites

Except for the topic “Harry & Meghan”, the nominations of the HCA TV Awards overlap with those of the Emmys to a large extent: For example, the series “Beef”, “Dahmer”, “The White Lotus”, “Wednesday”, “Succession ” and “The Last of Us” in both award lists among the multiple nominees. The latter top the list for the Emmys: the media satire “Succession” received 27, the post-apocalyptic series “The Last of Us” 24 nominations.

The Emmys will be presented on September 18th. The winners of the HCA TV Awards will be chosen by a panel of judges between July 18th and 25th. It is not yet known when the award ceremony will take place.
