In yet another shameful act, five deaf and dumb orphan girls were raped in a school run by an NGO in Indian city of Jaipur.

New Delhi, May 18/Nationalturk – Five deaf and dumb orphan girls were raped in a school run by an NGO in Indian city of Jaipur.

“The girls aged between 15-17 years,  who are speech and hearing impaired, were staying at the hostel run by an NGO in Indian city of Jaipur in Rajasthan State. The girls had been sexually exploited by two employees of the NGO for some time in the residential school run by NGO,” a police officer Shweta Dhankar was quoted as saying by media today.

She said the girls were raped and beaten repeatedly by the accused. “When the two girls approached the NGO officials, their complaints were ignored”.

Police said the girls were from a juvenile shelter home and had been sent to the residential school, which runs with the support from the Social Justice department, to undergo  speech therapy and studies.

“When they returned to their orphanage on April 30, they allegedly complained that they were raped and also beaten up by the staff of the NGO.  Subsequently, a complaint was filed in police.

4 persons arrested

A police official said police have arrested four persons of the NGO in an early morning raid today. “Investigations are going on and more arrests are likely to take place”.

Those arrested include NGO’s warden, supervisor, accounts clerk and the clerk’s wife.

The sexual offences against women have been on rise in India. There are reports in media everyday about sexual offences against women.  There has been growing demand from civil society to take stern action against the rapists and those involved in crimes against women.
