Five Dutch military vehicles collide in the Czech Republic

Five Dutch military vehicles collided with each other in the south of the Czech Republic on Saturday, a Defense spokesperson confirmed to NU.nl. There are no injuries, but there is some damage.

The accident happened on the way to Slovakia, where a Dutch Patriot fire unit will guard and protect part of NATO’s eastern flank, Defense reports. The front vehicle had to brake suddenly in the rain on a slippery road surface, causing the pile-up.

The accident did not involve missile launch systems, only support vehicles. That is why there are no consequences for the planned deployment.

Protecting Slovakia and Europe

About 150 soldiers are on their way to the Slovak air base Sliac. A fire unit will be deployed nearby for about six months to monitor the deteriorating security situation in Europe.

The Dutch soldiers left together with two German fire units and are later joined by an American Patriot fire unit. For example, the Netherlands, Germany and the United States want to protect the Slovak inhabitants against possible missile threats.
