Indian government is screening passengers coming to the country from four West African country, which form epicentre of Ebola virus.

New Delhi, Aug 11/Nationalturk – With deadly Ebola virus claiming more lives in four West African countries, Indian government is screening passengers coming to the country from West Africa.

“The Health Ministry in coordination with Ministries of Home Affairs (Immigration Department), External Affairs and Civil Aviation is constantly tracking passengers arriving in India from the West African countries affected by Ebola,”Indian Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said .

He said mandatory self reporting is in place.

“Health officers posted in identified international airports all over India are screening passengers (originating / transiting from affected West African countries) getting off aircraft. Till now all those arriving have been found to be healthy,” he said.

Vardhan denied reports that a “suspect case” of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has been detected in Chennai, capital of Southern Indian State of Tamil Nadu.

“Indian government was informed that a person had landed at Chennai airport from Guinea on August 9. He was checked for symptoms and was found healthy. However, the health authorities of the state are monitoring his health,” he said.

‘No Ebola virus case detected in India’

Vardhan had said on Friday that  India does not have any confirmed or even suspected Ebola virus affected person.

He said Indian government has advised Indians against non-essential travel to four West African countries –Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria – which form the epicenter of EVD.

A hospital in Indian capital, New Delhi – Dr.R M L Hospital has been designated for management of cases in Delhi. The hospital has earmarked treatment facilities and a Nodal Officer.
