An Indian minister, 64, was killed in a road accident in Indian capital on Tuesday morning.
New Delhi, June 3/Nationalturk – An Indian minister and senior leader of ruling rightwing Hindu group BJP was killed in a road accident in Indian capital on Tuesday.
A police official said at around 0620 hours today, Indian minister for Rural Development Gopinath Munde was on way to airport to visit the financial capital, Mumbai.
“A car crashed into the minister’s SX4 car at the Prithviraj Road and Aurobindo Chowk cross-section in New Delhi, Indian capital, on the rear side where minister was seated,” he said.
He said 64-year-old minister suffered injuries in the accident. “He was in shock and immediately evacuated to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).”
“There was no spontaneous breathing, no pulse and no cardiac activity when the minister was brought to the hospital,” a doctor, who attended on him in the hospital, said.
He said the doctors tried to revive the minister, but they could not and pronounced him dead.
Driver of vehicle that hit minister’s car detained
Police said driver of the vehicle that crashed into minister’s vehicle has been detained.
“He has been booked under Indian Penal Code’s sections 304A and 279 for death due to negligence and rash driving,” a police officer said.
Munde was a senior leader of BJP and hailed from Indian State of Maharashtra. He was a deputy chief minister of the state between 1995 and 1999.
His body will be created tomorrow.
Indian PM, other parties condole Munde’s demise
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled his demise.
“I am extremely saddened and shocked by the demise of my friend and colleague Gopinath Munde. His demise is a major loss for the nation and the government. He was a true mass leader,” he said.
Modi said Munde hailed from backward section of society and rose to great heights and tirelessly served people. “His demise leaves a void hard to fill. We stand by his family in this hour of grief,” he said.
