President Rousseff and Mujica to Review Ties

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff welcomed Uruguay counterpart Jose Mujica at Palacio de la Alborada, the government house, where they will discuss the main areas of bilateral cooperation.

The program for this second visit this year -planned last weekend at the 6th Summit of the Americas in Cartagenas, Colombia, includes a joint press briefing past a work meeting whose content Brazilian Antonio Patriota will report.

Also the government official website reports that Mujica will have lunch later at the official residence and return to Montevideo.

Brazil’s Foreign Ministry says both Presidents will confer on cooperation in areas like energy integration, on science, technology and innovation, biotechnology and digital TV.

At last December MERCOSUR Summit, both heads of state agreed to embrace the alliance on infrastructure and technology.

Rousseff then mentioned plans to complete two segments of the transborder railroad linking both countries.

Brazil and Uruguay also negotiate energy integration building a 500 kW grid connecting Candiota (Brazil) and San Carlos (Uruguay).

Official stats say Brazil caps Uruguay Foreign Trade as a leading business partner. Commercial exchange last year closed at $3.900bn (26.4% over the total in 2010).
