At least seven persons including five bombers were killed when the suicide bombers stormed the regional head quarters of Pakistan’s premier spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Sindh province on Wednesday evening.

Islamabad, July 25/Nationalturk- Five suicide bombers stormed the regional headquarters of Pakistan’s premier spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Sindh province on Wednesday evening. In the ensuing firefight and blasts, all the five bombers, an employee of ISI and a civilian were killed. Police claimed that they have arrested two suspected militants during the operation.

Security officials said a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the gate of ISI headquarters at Sukkur Barrage Colony in Sindh province last evening when people were breaking fast in the holy month of Ramadan.

The Sukkur Barrage Colony is a high security zone. The residences of several government officers including Judges Colony and the offices of an intelligence agency are known to be located in the colony.

Official said another bomb blew himself up in the building, which housed ISI headquarters and office of DIG Commissioner.

Immediately after the militant attack, Pakistan security forces launched operation to flush out the attackers. The area was rattling with explosions and firing and firing and blasts continued for some time.

2 militants blew up, 3 were shot dead

“Two militants blew themselves up while three others were shot dead by the security forces,” Pakistan border guards Pakistan Rangers spokesman told media persons.

He said the site was cleared after the operation to flush out the militants was launched by security forces.

“Five terrorists launched the attack on the ISI office,” he said adding several security officials sustained injuries during the operation against the attackers.

Security officials said the ISI office might have been target of the attack. In past also, militants have targeted ISI offices at many places in the country. In May 2009, a suicide attack outside a police building next to the local ISI office in Lahore killed 24 people. In November that year a powerful car bomb ripped through ISI’s headquarters in Peshawar, killing 10 people and destroying part of the fortified building. A month later in Multan two suicide attackers fired at soldiers while driving a truck bomb past security checkpoints in an attempt to approach the local office of the ISI.

They said an employee of the Commissioner House Ehsan Ali and an employee of ISI Azizullah were killed. “At least 35 people including 11 women and five children were injured in the attack”.

The officials said Director ISI, DIG Sukkur and commissioner Sukkur were not present in their offices when the attack took place. “The ISI office and other building suffered extensive damage in the blasts caused by militants”.

Security forces conducted searches during night

Police and Pakistan Rangers personnel launched a combing and search operation in the area after the militants were neutralized. “The security personnel sealed off the area and conducted search operations in the night to look for militants”.

ASP City Maqsood told reporters that two alleged terrorists have been arrested. “Besides, we have also picked up some more suspected persons for questioning”.

Pakistan newspaper Express Tribune quoted credible sources as saying that target of the attack was ISI official Major Zeeshan, who had important documents containing details of terrorists. Zeeshan was breaking fast in his office when the terrorists mounted the attack.

Although no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, but security officials believe the attack is the handiwork of dreaded militant outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
