Aliyev: We are ready to stop the war in Nagorno-Karabakh

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that they are ready to stop the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, provided that Armenia withdraw its troops from the occupied territories.

Speaking to La Repubblica newspaper in Italy, Aliyev said, “The faster the war ends, the better. I have said it many times, I can repeat it once more… If the Prime Minister of Armenia (Nikol Pashinyan) takes the responsibility of leaving the remaining territories, we are ready to stop the war today. “He has not yet taken on this responsibility,” he said.

Aliyev stated that, in accordance with the basic principles of the UNSC decisions, first 5 and then 2 more regions should be saved.

Aliyev said, “We saved 4 regions unilaterally. For this reason, Pashinyan should announce that the soldiers in Aghdam, Kelbajar and Lachin regions, which are still under occupation, will withdraw, but he does not make such a statement. “This shows that he does not want the war to end,” he said.

Pashinyan had previously told Al Arabiya television that Yerevan was ready to negotiate for the solution of the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, but Baku did not compromise.

The conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh, which had been waiting for a solution for many years, flared up again on 27 September. Nagorno-Karabakh, officially part of Azerbaijan, is de facto under the control of Armenian forces.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Armenian Foreign Minister Zograb Mnatsakanyan and Ceyhun Bayramov held talks in Moscow on 9 October. Later, on October 10, it was agreed to declare a ceasefire. After the ceasefire violations, a new ceasefire was declared on October 18, but the violations did not stop after that.

Finally, a third temporary humanitarian ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh entered into force on October 26 at 08:00 local time.
