A devastating fire triggered a major fire brigade operation in Radeberg near Dresden on Thursday morning. As the police confirmed, the fire broke out around 9 a.m. in a Netto supermarket on Dr.-Albert-Dietze-Strasse. Flames belched out of the building and a huge plume of smoke that could be seen from miles billowed into the sky, a reporter at the scene said.

An adjacent residential building had to be evacuated for a short time, a police spokesman told t-online. The store manager was taken to the hospital with suspected smoke poisoning, but was released again at noon. A firefighter was also injured. The fire is now under control.

Due to the heavy smoke, residents were asked to close windows and doors. The area was blocked off extensively, including the complete blocking of Dr.-Albert-Dietze-Strasse. According to the fire department, the fire should burn out in a controlled manner.
