Explosion hits Istanbul’s Istiklal Street / Breaking News

According to initial reports, people were wounded in the blast. After the blast, several fire-fighting vehicles and ambulances were seen rushing towards the scene. Security forces evacuated the area, while the street has been closed to traffic.

According to Istanbul’s governor, at least five people were killed in the blast, including the bomber himself, and 20 were wounded. Governor Vasip Sahin said that the wounded were sent to hospitals around the district in the European side of Istanbul.

Four people were killed and 36 injured, 7 of them seriously, in Saturday’s suicide bomb blast on Istanbul’s Istiklal Street, said Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu.

Muezzinoglu told reporters in the western province of Bursa that 12 of the injured in the blast are foreign nationals. He added that four of the injured are currently in surgery.
