FIFA reject Republic of Ireland’s last hope

republic or Ireland portest

Football’s world governing body FIFA have rejected the latest attempt by the Republic of Ireland to be included in World Cup 2010 South Africa.

FIFA have said Ireland will not be involved in the World Cup 2010 South Africa as the 33rd team.

The Republic of Ireland had filed a complaint to FIFA over the controversial handball of Thierry Henry in the playoffs which resulted on France drawing 1-1 which was enough for them to win the playoffs 2-1 on aggregate following their earlier 1-0 win in Dublin.

Jerome Valcke secretary general said on Tuesday “it was impossible to change the structure of the tournament as it would open Fifa to a host of other complaints of teams that felt they were cheated during qualifying” he also added “I would not say it is a nonsense but it is impossible.”

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said on Monday that the Republic of Ireland’s football governing body wrote a letter asking him for the Republic of Ireland to be let into the World Cup 2010 in South Africa because of Henry’s handball, which led directly to William Gallas’ decisive goal in Paris.

The “Hand of Henry” caused a storm of protest, particularly in the Emerald Isle.

The incident was even discussed in the Irish Parliament as the game was called to be replayed which was publically endorsed by the culprit Thierry Henry.
