Giovanni Zarrella: embarrassing slip of the tongue in the live show

The musician became famous with Bro’Sis. Now Giovanni Zarrella is one of the most sought-after Saturday evening show presenters on German television, although the Italian seems to forget his roots at times.

For the fourth time, Giovanni Zarrella welcomed the elite of the hit industry in his show of the same name. Stars like Andrea Berg, Maite Kelly, Roland Kaiser and Howard Carpendale performed on Saturday evening. The DSDS winner from 2011, Pietro Lombardi, was also one of the music acts on April 9th.

“I also came from a boy band”

The host of the show talked to him after his performance about the musicians who started their careers in talent shows. “You have to say that the casting formats created incredible artists. […] Ramon Roselly, Mike Leon Grosch, Beatrice Egli, the No Angels, then you were there,” said the singer, adding: “I came out too a boy band.”

boy band? Giovanni Zarrella became famous with the band Bro’Sis, which was founded by the talent show “Popstars”, and which consisted not only of men but also of two women. Even the name of the band gives it away, because the abbreviation Bro’Sis stands for Brothers and Sisters.

Besides Giovanni, the members of the group included the musicians Shaham, Faiz, Ross, but also Hila and Indira. But the Italian seems to have forgotten that on Saturday evening on the big ZDF stage.

The musician is still grateful for his time with the band, even 15 years after the breakup. “Without this chance, nothing else would have happened,” he enthuses in an interview with t-online. The member of the former “Popstars” band has now become a popular Saturday night show presenter.

“That sounds like lateral thinkers to my ears”

For the fourth time, the 44-year-old flickered across the screens with his format. Almost four million people watched as the musician moderated a live show for three hours. The appearance of Andreas Gabalier caused a sensation.

The hit star likes to polarize and has repeatedly caused a stir in the past with controversial statements that critics interpreted as homophobic, misogynist and right-wing populist. Now the Austrian spoke about the corona pandemic, some of which he experienced in Nashville. “It was nice to see how the Americans deal with Corona. No mask, no proof of vaccination. It was pure joie de vivre!” said the 37-year-old.

A statement that was not well received by the viewers. “That sounds like a lateral thinker to my ears,” commented a user on Twitter, for example. Another asked: “Why is he still invited somewhere?”

Giovanni Zarrella received a lot of praise for his answer. Because he said: “Everything in its time. I think we’re doing it quite sensibly.” The moderator is celebrated for this on the Internet. “Mr. Zarrella just surprised me in a positive way. A brave statement in front of dull-roaring Gabalier fanboys,” someone wrote. “100 sympathy points for Giovanni because he took a stand after the bad Gabalier,” said another viewer.
