Johnny Depp thanked his fans after the jury’s verdict in the defamation trial against Amber Heard. His ex-wife has now made clear statements about this.
A few days after the jury verdict in the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the former addressed the public. He shared a clip on his recently created TikTok profile, which you can see below.
In it he thanked his fans for their support during the hearing days. “We did the right thing together because it was important to you, and now we will all move forward together,” he explained in his post, among other things.
A reason for Amber Heard to react. A spokesman for the actress said: “While Johnny Depp says he’s ‘moving forward’, women’s rights are moving backwards. The message of the verdict to victims of domestic violence is: be afraid to stand up and speak your mind accept.”
The actors sued each other
The former spouses’ trial ended on June 1 with a jury decision. Details of their failed relationship in 2017 were unpacked in court for more than six weeks. Among other things, it was about allegations of abuse, alleged drug excesses and allegations of violent assaults.
The jury mostly agreed with the Pirates of the Caribbean star, who sued Heard over a 2018 Washington Post article. In the article, Heard had claimed to be a victim of domestic violence. She didn’t mention him by name, but after a six-week trial, the jury still ruled that she was guilty of defamation. She is said to have paid Depp $15 million (the equivalent of around €14 million), but due to applicable laws in Virginia, where the trial took place, she only has to raise $10.35 million (the equivalent of around €9.6 million).
Heard had filed a $100 million counterclaim. A former lawyer for Depp defamed the actress, the jury found, which is why the Hollywood star was fined two million dollars. Amber Heard’s attorney later announced on US television that her client wanted to appeal and “definitely could not” pay the amount.
