Limited Edition World Cup Gold Coins

There is something of a gold rush going on in South Africa as football fans, investors and collectors race to get the limited edition Fifa 2010 World Cup coin set.

And with just 199 days left to the kick off, the stampede for the coins is expected to increase.

Two sets have been produced by the SA Mint, which is selling them only through the South African Gold Coin Exchange and the country-wide Scoin shops (there is one at Gateway).

The first, the Laduma Prestige set, consists of 10 gold coins and has a limited edition of 500.

The second collection, the 2010 mascot set, features Zakumi and the official trademarks of the 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa on a 2006 R2 and a 2009 R1. Only 2010 sets have been minted and are being sold for R5 950.
