Miriam Rodríguez, the lioness roars louder

The Galician singer presents her second album and consolidates her career three years after ‘Operación triunfo’

Three years ago, one month in October 2017, Miriam Rodríguez appeared in the media to the Spanish public thanks to her participation in the Operación Triunfo contest, in an edition that Amaia Romero won and in which she came in third place behind Aitana. A podium that now is the least of it because, as often happens with these television experiences, the personal and professional evolution of the contestants is what ends up marking the distance with that stage that the Galician remembers fondly and which she has never denied , well aware of the stepping stone it meant for his career.

At that time, she wore curly blonde hair – now her image has changed somewhat by straightening her hair – which, together with the character and personality that she always demonstrated at the Academy, ended up giving her the role of the lioness, as her followers affectionately know her. Now, its roar is even louder if possible thanks to a second album, The Direction of Your Luck (Universal, 2020) which was released in April in digital format and which is now physically released. “It is a project that represents a before and after in my career, not only because of the work behind it, but also because of the circumstances that arose to launch it,” confesses the artist in a meeting with La Vanguardia.

To get here, her formula has been one of constant effort, and if the 24-year-old singer is clear about something, it is that “good luck is something that is cultivated and worked on. If there are many artists who consider that it is important for inspiration to assail you while working, the same happens with that good luck that can mark not only the direction of a career, but also write the script of a destination that, in Rodríguez’s case , aspires to be long, even if now you are only on the launch pad of your project. “I am experiencing something that I never thought would come true. Everything that has happened to me during these years is far above what I would have ever imagined ”, she is sincere.

Good luck is something that is cultivated and worked ”

And for now everything that has happened to him is not little, far from it. He has released two albums, has made luxury collaborations and some special ones such as with his friend Pablo López, he has been able to live a tour and is preparing another for his new project, a more intense and personal album than the previous one he has recorded between Madrid, London and Mexico where he has been able to collaborate with Nick Atkinson and Ed Holloway –producers of Lewis Capaldi, Pablo Cebrián or Armando Ávila, among others.

A long-distance race that she also shares with special people like her brother Efrén, one of the cornerstones of her project that now has to surf with the social situation of alarm that we are experiencing due to the pandemic. “You feel helpless because there is nothing worse for human beings than living with the uncertainty of life,” confesses the artist who should have started her second tour last May.

The handbrake imposed by the Covid was also used by Miriam Rodríguez to do something that for three years had been impossible for her: to get oxygen. It was two months this summer in which she decided to return to Galicia, her land, to evoke past feelings and rediscover her life before the media maelstrom. She returns now with renewed energy and also consolidating a more rogue and joker side, which is also part of it. “From the outside, it may seem that I am a very serious aunt, focused on my work, but I have a personal side in which I joke all day and I like to create a good atmosphere,” says the artist who refers her people to the clip of the theme Don’t come back, which he recorded with the comedian and actor Dani Martínez or his summary videos on how this second album was created.

Also on television with the program La voz, where in recent editions she has gained weight by cultivating her role as assistant to the coaches and presentation tasks. Is it one step ahead? “I would love to be a coach at La voz kids one day as I have absolute devotion to children,” she admits. For now she is focused on her music, composing new songs, thinking about her live performance and anticipating that during the next year she will fulfill another of her dreams: to publish a song in Galician. And that’s also being in luck.
