No cases of Ebola virus in India

In a good news for India, no case of deadly Ebola virus has been detected in India.

New Delhi, Aug 14/Nationalturk – Indian government has said no case of deadly Ebola virus has been detected in India.

“As on August 13, there was no confirmed or even suspect case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in India,” Indian health ministry official said.

He said 30 year old Nigerian national, who arrived at Delhi airport was admitted to Dr RML Hospital on Wednesday with complaints of fever.

“He has tested negative for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in tests done at National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi,” the official said.

Indian government has sounded alert for deadly Ebola virus and put in measures at airports and ports to screen passengers coming from four Western Africa countries, where Ebola virus has caused casualties.

World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 1848 cases including 1013 death due to Ebola Virus Disease as on August 92014.

“Since August 10, about 3089 passengers have been screened at Airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Trivandrum and Kochi,” the health ministry official said.

India screening passengers from West Africa

Indian government is screening passengers coming to the country from West Africa.

“The Health Ministry in coordination with Ministries of Home Affairs (Immigration Department), External Affairs and Civil Aviation is constantly tracking passengers arriving in India from the West African countries affected by Ebola,” Indian Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had said recently.

He had said health officers posted in identified international airports all over India are screening passengers (originating / transiting from affected West African countries) getting off aircraft.

Indian government has advised Indians against non-essential travel to four West African countries –Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria – which form the epicenter of EVD.
