Six pilots of Pakistan International Airlines have been sacked by the government for possessing fake degrees.

Islamabad, Dec 7/NationalTurk- Pakistan has sacked six pilots of government-run  Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for holding fake degrees.

Media reports said among the pilots, who have been sacked include Captain Fahim and Captain Arshad, who have flown the airplanes of various prime ministers and presidents.

They said Fahim and Arshad had been discharging their duties in PIA for over 18 year. “The other sacked pilots included Captain Zaib, Captain Shayan, Captain Asmat and Captain Shahid Mannan.”

According to airline sources, more than 500 staffers were also found to have fake credentials.  “Action will also be taken against them”.

PIA chairman Lt Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik while briefing country’s National Assembly’s Special Committee on delays in flights and grounding of aircrafts said a full-fledged crackdown on fake degree holders of airlines will be launched. “The job will be undertaken as early as possible.”

He said PIA is a bleeding organisation at this juncture and needs some time for recovery before getting rid of fake degree holders and incompetent and corrupt officials.

HE said 54 percent of PIA’s total income is spent on fuel purchasing while 12 percent goes in debt servicing.

PIA deputy managing director Air Vice Marshal Qasim Masood Khan told the committee that 26 out of the airline’s 38 aircraft were currently operational while the rest were grounded for maintenance.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Sunday, a PIA flight carrying Chief Justice of country’s supreme court and several ministers and parliamentarians aborted take-off in Karachi after one of its engines reportedly caught fire.
