Roller coaster derails at Danish amusement park

The back of a roller coaster derailed at the Tivoli amusement park in Aarhus (Denmark) on Thursday!

Some guests claim to have heard a loud bang shortly before the accident.

The last two seats are said to have come loose around 12:50 p.m. while driving, according to the local newspaper “Århus Stiftstidende”. Accordingly, a 14-year-old girl died in the accident – two people were injured, including a 13-year-old boy. The injured are said to have been taken to a hospital.

According to the amusement park director Henrik Ragborg Olsen, the roller coaster (25 meters long, up to 70 km/h fast) called Cobra has come to a standstill at a height of two to three meters. Firefighters are getting the passengers out of the cars. The park is scheduled to remain closed for the next two days. Only relatives and eyewitnesses should still be on site. You will be offered psychological help.

Police said they are looking for eyewitnesses and want to hear what other Tivoli guests experienced, particularly in relation to the bang. “All in all, it’s far too early to draw any conclusions,” said Police Inspector Brian Voss Olsen.

What caused the accident is still unclear. However, it is not the first time that the roller coaster has derailed. In 2008, the front car of the Cobra crashed, as the “Jyllands-Posten” writes. Four people were injured. The cause back then: an axle that collapsed under the weight of the overloaded car.
